The story follows Samuel (8), a sweet and sensitive boy, who lives in a home dominated by his father's masculinity and his brothers' roughness. When his father kills a mountain lion that has been prowling their land, Sam is scarred by the brutality. His father, in an attempt to teach him to be "a man," warns him not to cry. But soon the animal's death triggers a series of mysterious events in the village, and the men are convinced that something dark has awakened in the forest. As the men of the village prepare to confront these forces, Sam experiences his father's relentless lessons in masculinity.

La historia sigue a Samuel (8), un niño dulce y sensible, quien vive en un hogar dominado por la masculinidad de su padre y la rudeza de sus hermanos.
